3rd area of focus- How Anne Hutchinson and her trial changed history.
Anne Hutchinson struggle and trial is a turning point in American history because it is recognized as one of the earliest battles against religious intolerance in American history. Her trial and courageous actions helped the idea of religious freedom grow in the colonies, after the colonies won their freedom from Great Britain. Religious freedom was then put in the constitution.
Anne was not able to change the church and state in Massachusetts at that time, but she drew a tremendous following and made an impact in history. Anne was one of the first women to speakout and support alternative religious thoughts. Her strong opinions on how women should be treated and religious freedom made her one of the first women to stand up for her rights in America. Religious struggles still exist today in my many places but in American we are able to practice whatever religion without prosecution thanks to the pioneers of this country like Anne Hutchinson.
